God I was talking about fantasy with someone today, and they brushed off my criticism of a certain series with “Well, you’re an English major and I’m a fantasy super nerd.” To imply I was over criticizing, and that he really knew his stuff when it comes to fantasy. First of all I haven’t been reading fantasy for 20 years for nothing and secondly even if I didn’t why do I have to have deep knowledge of the genre in order to make literary criticism!
